Waimangu Volcanic Valley
WAIMANGU:
Winners New Zealand Eco Tourism Award 2001. Winners New Zealand Service to the Environment Award 2001.  Waimangu is the world's only hydrothermal system where the exact commencement date of surface activity is known, 10th June 1886. Waimangu and Rotomahana is New Zealand's only current example of a bio-system re-establishing in an area following complete devastation.

Mt Tarawera-Waimangu Volcanic Valley by Floatplane - leaving from Waiteti Lodge. Off Lake Rotorua via the Creater Lakes District to the summit of Mt Tarawera to view the volcanic crater rift. Continue via the steaming cliffs of Lake Rotomahana, Waimangu Volcanic Valley and the Blue and Green Lakes. Whakarewarewa mud pools, geysers and forestry area to the Rotorua Lakefront.
